From January 19th to 24th, the 2025 Winter School on Intelligent Robotics for outstanding international junior high school and high school students was successfully held. During the five-day period, the campers were guided by a group of local and overseas mentors to learn robotics knowledge in a systematic way.

At the opening ceremony on the morning of the 19th, Zhu Dan, the Vice President of the College (on secondment), on behalf of the College, extended a warm welcome to the students participating in this winter school. He wished that all the campers could learn happily, explore new programming knowledge, and improve in their coding ability and logical thinking during these five days.

After the opening of the camp, Prof. Zhang Xinyu taught the campers the first introductory course on Intelligent Robotics, followed by Dr. Ricardo and the three mentors, Moo Chee Gen, Cheng Ruo Xi and Zeng Zimou of Rosen bridge, who combined cutting-edge AI robotics technology with a combination of theoretical and practical approaches to teach the campers in an orderly manner. Based on the different levels of knowledge and programming ability of the campers, the mentors set individual course objectives and classroom tasks, so that every participant can learn something from this experience.

Through five days of study, the students learned the basic concepts of robotics, the application of Linux and Python in robotics, and then delved into the ROS2 robot operating system and robot intelligent navigation practices.

In addition, the mentors led the students to visit Zhiyuan Robotics to learn about the current development of the domestic robotics industry; they visited the AI Innovation Port, played chess against artificial intelligence, and experienced driverless technology. They also went to the Shanghai Astronomy Museum for a break and to expand their knowledge of astronomy and learn about aerospace engineering.

In the end, the winter school evaluated the learning outcomes through two sessions: presentation defense and practical operation demonstration. The students summarized what they had learned, shared their feelings, and showcased the achievements of their intelligent car navigation projects. At the closing ceremony, the mentors presented the students with certificates of completion and awards for outstanding campers. The outstanding students will be rewarded with scholarships and invited to participate in the APAI Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition.
